Escheatment
Escheatment is a process where assets (including cash, equities, and cryptocurrency) in an account are sent to the state if there’s been no activity for an extended period of time. Different states and US territories have different rules on how long it takes for an account to be considered dormant.
You can learn more about the escheatment process at the SEC website and the NAUPA website.
To avoid your assets being sent to the state, you can simply log into your Robinhood account to retain your assets.
We’ll send you an email and/or a physical letter to your address on file. This notification will include the date you have to log into your account to avoid assets being escheated.
If your assets have been escheated, you can contact your state administrator for the process of claiming your funds.
