Robinhood spending account security features
Your Robinhood Cash Card has the following security features, such as liability protection, fraud monitoring, location protection, lock your card, and spend alerts.
If you lost your card, follow the steps in What can I do if my card is lost or stolen?
If you notice any unauthorized transactions, contact us with the transactions in question and we’ll help investigate your claim and work to return your money.
The Mastercard® Zero Liability protection applies to purchases you make in-store, online, or on a mobile device.
Every transaction that you make is run through several different fraud checks. If we think that the purchase is fraudulent, we’ll decline the transaction and send you a notification. If this transaction was incorrectly flagged, you can acknowledge the transaction and try again. If it was a fraudulent transaction, you can lock your card and report it stolen right in your app.
Location protection helps protect you from potential bad actors using your card far away from your actual location. We determine your location based on the location of your mobile device. For example, if you’re in Arizona (based on location information from a trusted device) but your card is used in Wyoming, we’ll decline that transaction.
Keep in mind, location protection is optional and it only works if you’re sharing your location with Robinhood. If you’re spending money away from your device, you can always turn it on or off in Spending → Location Protection.
Lock card helps prevent future transactions on your card. If someone (including you) tries to use your card, they’ll get declined and we’ll send you a push notification and email.
To lock or unlock your card:
Keep in mind, locking your card won’t prevent pending transactions from settling or changing.
You can set up notifications for when your card is used. The notifications also let you know the merchant and the purchase amount, so you can stay on top of your spending. You can turn these on or off in Spending → Spend Alerts.
To report your card as lost, stolen, or damaged in the app:
If you don’t have access to the app, contact us for help.
Keep in mind that after a card is reported as lost or stolen, it’ll be canceled and we’ll issue you new card information, free of charge.
If you opted in for a physical debit card, we’ll also mail you a new card. It should arrive within 2 weeks. In the meantime, you can activate your virtual card and use it online or with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay.
If you have fraudulent or unauthorized account activity, follow the steps in How do I submit a dispute for your Robinhood Cash Card.
