Options trading hours
Most equity and ETF option contracts trade Monday–Friday (excluding holidays), 9:30 AM–4 PM ET (or 1 PM ET for half-days), when the market session closes for the day.
However, there are some underlying assets you can trade options on until 4:15 PM ET (these assets are determined by options exchanges). Assets eligible for late close options trading (4:15 PM ET) are typically exchange-traded products that track major market indices like the S&P 500 (SPY). Index options also trade until 4:15 PM ET (Trading hours has details).
For equity and ETF options, if you have expiration date trading enabled, you’ll have until 3:30 PM ET to open positions in same-day expiring contracts. We'll attempt to close out any expiring, at-risk positions starting at 3:30 PM ET. This standard closeout process doesn’t apply for index options.
